    Greetings!

The Fort Greene Park Conservancy's mission is to celebrate and improve Brooklyn's historic park. There are many opportunities for you to participate, including the annual It's My Park Day on May 19, 2007. We are proud of our improvement projects and look forward to a great summer of celebrating the splendors of the park. I'm thrilled to announce the Fort Greene Park Free Film Festival, offering five dates throughout the summer (full schedule to come). The series is made possible by a generous grant from Partnership for Parks and loyal community partners, especially Council Member Letitia James and the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership. We are looking for volunteers to staff park events and are seeking additional corporate sponsors. If you're interested in being part of the fun It's My Park Day event, please email us at info@fortgreenepark.org and be sure to visit our website, fortgreenepark.org.

    See you in the Park!

Revolutionary War How Brooklyn Saved the USA

Our very own park ranger, Bert Correa, was quoted on the historic Battle of Brooklyn in an article in April's Financial Times. The article, titled "How Brooklyn Saved the US" describes how revolutionary soldiers were outnumbered and defeated in The Battle of Brooklyn. Losing the battle, however, led to eventual victory in the Revolutionary War.

To hear more about this historic event attend a ranger program in the park. Throughout the summer the Fort Greene Park Rangers give free walks and talks on a wide variety of subjects in the park. For a full calendar of events, click here. And be sure to check out the new "Fort Greene Park Tree Trail," with markers identifying the numerous tree species in the park.

Artisan Market Opening of the Artisan Market

One of the first harbingers of spring is when Fort Greene artisans come out of hibernation and establish their market. Located adjacent to the GreenMarket at the corner of DeKalb and Washington Park, the Artisan Market is held on the following Saturdays: May 12, May 26, June 2, June 16, June 30, August 25, September 1. To learn more about the Artisan Market go to artisan-market.org.
